Lunch & Learn

Our church, as well as several Methodist and Wesleyan churches, have experienced much change over the last year. FMC’s Adult Discipleship Team invites you to spend some time this summer re-focusing on what the church is really about – Discipleship, Worship, and Mission – in our Lunch & Learn sessions. This focus is informed by the mission statement of the Global Methodist Church, “Our Mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ who worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly.”

All the Lunch & Learn sessions will occur immediately after the 10:30 AM worship service (approximate start at 11:30 AM) in the Youth Room.

Discipleship: On Sunday, June 11, we will hear from the Rev. Dr. Rusty Freeman, Program Director of the Wesley House of Studies at Truett Seminary. Rusty is an expert in youth and young adult ministries, men’s ministries, and spiritual formation. From 2000 to 2014, he served as Director of Youth Ministries for the Rio Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. In 2015, Rusty and his wife, Dr. Lane Freeman, founded Movement Ministries, LLC, which oversees the Revive Children’s Camp our church attends, among many other camps and retreats. In 2019, they formed Revive Ministries as a non-profit entity to help lead youth and youth workers into making disciples and growing God’s Kingdom.

Worship: On Sunday, July 16, we will hear a (remote) message from Rev. Jessica LaGrone, Dean of Chapel at Asbury Theological Seminary. Rev. LaGrone was with us last summer telling us about her book Out of Chaos. She returns this summer to talk to us about the art of worship and share about the outpouring that Asbury College experienced this spring.

Mission: For our final Lunch & Learn on Sunday, August 13, we will hear from some of our own mission teams who have been to Guatemala and Germany this year. Following the updates from our teams, we will receive some encouragement from Lauren Palmer and our supported missionary, Jen Jackett, about Jenn’s ongoing ministry in South Asia.
