As you might be aware, First Church currently has a committee that organizes adult outreach and service in and around our community. In support of this fabulous effort, the children’s education committee will be starting a more focused effort around service projects for our young people and their families to engage in at First Kids and END Zone.
There are many types of service but we will be focusing on those that advance the spirit of giving in our kids’ lives. These projects might range from direct service (yard work or cleaning house) to direct giving (gathering of canned goods and taking to a food bank), to making (crafting projects to give). There are so many ways to teach our kids service that we are going to try a very creative and fun approach to get the kids involved. These will be family focused and parent involvement is crucial.
Our first initiative will be Reverse Trick-Or-Treat! Before Halloween, please talk to your children about bringing in all the candy they would like to donate to other kids in need or to food banks. We will accept candy donations until Wednesday, November 5, and then will arrange for parent and children teams to make the deliveries shortly thereafter.
Thanks for serving with us!
