Below is an update on the trips coming up in 2011. I don’t have cost information at this time for these trips, but please email missions@firstchurch.net for more information.
A few things have changed about the requirements for going on a trip with First Church:
1. Each member wanting to take part in a trip will be required to fill out an application that will take place in two parts – one initial part and then a second part after you have been approved to go on the trip. We are starting to have to limit the number of people to go on each trip – what a great problem to have!
2. Those wanting to join a mission trip team will also be required to attend a Missions Training course to be scheduled in late October or early November. Another course will be offered in the spring before the summer trips. Check back here for more details, and mark that on your calendars if you plan to take a trip with us or would just like to learn more about missions in general.
India – January Keva Green and (hopefully) a few others will be going to India this coming January. A couple that will soon be joining our church have some ministries with orphanages there and want to bring a group to check out how we can be more involved with service to those orphanages.
Colombia – Spring Break Jeff Dietz and Robyn Patzig will be leading another trip to Colombia over Spring Break of this year. This trip will have a maximum of 15 people.
Cambodia – Spring Break Emara and Chiv In will lead this trip to dedicate another church building in a village near O’Khmom.
England – Spring or Summer Keva and Dana Vansteenbergen will be leading a ministry/research trip to England this spring or summer. The group will be visiting all of the area schools and doing ministry to primarily children and youth.
Romania – Summer Dane Daniels and myself (Abbey) will be leading a trip to Romania to lead worship for and facilitate youth summer camps. The team that goes on this trip will likely be comprised of a worship ensemble (post-high school age) that will check out what it would look like to bring a larger team.
Cambodia – November This trip might be scheduled over Thanksgiving to allow for youth to come. It will have a maximum of 12 people.
That’s a lot of trips! Lots to choose from! Please prayerfully consider each of these, ask me or Sharon Roelke or anyone in the office if you have any questions about them, and attend the training on November 6.
