I am pleased to announce that Reverend Dr. John Allen has been appointed as our new Senior Pastor! Pastor John has been in ministry for over 35 years and is no stranger to North Texas, having served at a number of churches in our conference including Trietsch Memorial UMC in Flower Mound, First UMC McKinney, and First UMC Rowlett. Currently, John is serving as pastor at Buckingham UMC in Garland, where he has been since 2017.
John has successfully led a number of churches in achieving significant growth and obtaining financial solvency. He also is an experienced executive coach and management/leadership trainer.
John believes that the primary role of the pastor is to live into the life of the church as well as the community. Only then can a pastor cast a vision that is both God-led and captured and owned by the congregation. John believes that worship is the heartbeat of the church and prayer should cover every decision. He has a people-first approach and understands that his availability is critical to success of his ministry. John also loves to teach and admits he has led as many as three weekly Bible studies at the same time.
John received his Bachelor of Science from SMU and his Master of Theology and Doctor of Ministry from Perkins School of Theology. He also has an Executive Coaching Certificate from UTD and is nearing completion of his Masters of Business Organizational Behavior from UTD.
John has two grown children: daughter Kaley Scheer, who resides in Lake Highlands, Texas, and son John III, who lives in Aledo, Texas. More importantly, John is Pawpaw to four grandchildren ranging in age from five years to seven months: Oliver, Zoe, Maci, and Josey.
John’s first official day at FMC will be July 1, and his first Sunday to preach will be July 7. He is looking forward to meeting all of you!
Thank you all for your continued prayers during this time of transition for our church. Please pray for Buckingham UMC as they will now prepare to receive their new pastor. Also, please be in prayer for John, as he will be undergoing surgery on his shoulder next week.
