Hi! I’m Nancy Golden, director of Pursuit – our Young Adults Ministry here at First Church. According to Sticky Faith, an organization created to help set students on a trajectory of lifelong faith and service, college students who have contact with their former youth leaders and adults from their home church tend to be students more likely to have Sticky Faith.
Our college students are well into their Fall term, so now is the time to especially remember and nourish them with care packages from their church family. We expect to send dozens of boxes this Fall! We will have a table in the foyer where you can pick up flat-rate boxes along with instructions and a list of suggestions. Much like an “Angel Tree” kind of project or “Operation Christmas Child” shoebox, community groups, families, or individuals can grab a box for someone they know or someone they don’t know and fill it with goodies. Our prayer is that this simple gesture helps to keep our students connected to a family of believers that loves them.
If you would rather make a monetary donation – we can do that too! Just make your check out to FUMC, mark it CARE, and drop it off at the table. We’ll use it for packages that don’t get filled and postage. We will have boxes available for pickup on November 13 and November 20. They can be dropped off at the same table on November 20 and 27. We are going to do our mail out on November 30. If you have any questions, please contact me at pngolden@verizon.net or cell 972-786-6430.
P.S. College Parents: In order for your student, living at home or away to receive a care package, if you have not already done so, send a current address to Nancy Golden. Please include your student’s mailing and e-mail address (so we can tell him or her to look for a package). The college students will thank you!
