Connecting Students to Christ!
Tim Thompson, Youth Pastor

Hi! I’m Tim Thompson, and I just accepted the offer to be the new youth pastor at First Methodist Carrollton! I’ve been in youth ministry for almost 10 years, starting as a youth intern in 2011. Since then I’ve served on staff in three churches, including five years at Wylie United Methodist Church in Abilene, Texas. Right now, I’m wrapping up ministry at New Life Lutheran Church in Illinois and preparing to move back home to Texas!

I grew up in Cedar Hill, in a home with two loving parents who taught me how to be a believer in Jesus. I was a preacher’s kid, but I came to really know Jesus through my youth group. One of the reasons I’m a youth pastor today is because my youth pastor was so influential in my life. He cared for me, he nourished me, he pushed me when I need to be pushed, and he pulled me back when I needed that. When I was stupid, he called me out, and when I needed counsel, he was there for me. I saw the impact of that not only on my life, but also in my friends around me. And that’s what I want to provide for the next generation of students.

I was a college athlete at McMurry University in Abilene. I played on the golf team and earned a Bachelor’s in Business Management, while serving on staff at Wylie UMC. I love using my passion for youth ministry, combined with my athletic and academic experience, to connect with students and to develop on-ramps for students to connect with Christ.

When I’m not at church, I continue to be an avid golfer. I also enjoy reading, games, and hanging out with friends. I like playing sports and I’m pretty good at all of them, except volleyball. I love playing golf, but watching golf is like watching paint dry, so I prefer watching baseball, basketball, and football. I play guitar and sing a little bit, and I love free-styling.

I’m excited to be back in Texas, mostly for Rosa’s and Whataburger, but also to be closer to family. I can’t wait to meet y’all and start serving Jesus with you in mid-May!
