Overview of Position
Our Teaching Assistants are responsible for nurturing the physical, cognitive, socio-emotional, and spiritual development of children birth through Pre-K. The successful teaching assistant will assist the classroom teacher by providing for the health and safety of young children, and demonstrating the skills required for effective Preschool-Home communication.
What You’ll Do
- Work within a welcoming, caring, and developmentally-appropriate interactive classroom that promotes the growth and development of all children
- Support the classroom teacher by implementing weekly teaching plans (indoor and outdoor) to nurture and stimulate each developmental domain: physical, cognitive, socio-emotional, and spiritual
- Incorporate character development and moral education into daily lessons, solidly rooted in Christian themes and Biblical teaching
- Provide responsive care and demonstrate cultural competency when working with all children
- Work in a collaborative environment with staff to assure children’s optimum growth and development
- Participate in staff meetings and training programs designed to increase competence and assure compliance with requirements for continuing education
- Assist the lead teacher in maintaining age-appropriate classroom supplies, teacher supplies and manipulatives
- Know and comply with the Texas State Minimum Standards for Childcare Centers
- Complete 24-hours of training for Preschool Teachers and Staff, according to the minimum standards for Texas Childcare Centers
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma
- Demonstrated ability to use child guidance communication skills or willingness to learn
- Ability to implement educational activities for birth through Pre-K
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and, in the case of emergency, a 40-pound child
- Demonstrate moral integrity through emotional stability and role modeling for children, families, and co-workers, and First Methodist Church clergy and staff
- Dependability and Punctuality
- Willing compliance with state licensure requirements and Preschool policies and procedures
It would be awesome if you had…
- Associate’s degree or higher education strongly preferred (especially in in pedagogy, early childhood education, or child development)
- At least one-year Preschool experience
- Previous employment experience in a licensed facility
- Some work history and excellent references
